  • This doesn't have anything to do with this page but i do wonder
How do they treat Pokémon who don't start as a Dark type but gain the Dark type by evolving (which in this world can happen by getting older)? Do the pre-evolutions face scrutiny as well? Why?
This is why i don't entirely understand the Dark type racism outside of it being the "Evil" type. There are other Pokémon that have beem said to do bad if not worse things than some Dark Types which would make you think any Scrutiny would be species specific.
What did Dark Types do in this world to make everyone hate them?

  • This place can show me if I'm really worth something.

Dude doesn't need the Expedition Society, he needs a guest appearance on Pawn Stars.

The story is based off of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon so i would read up on that games lore to understand it most likely

This comic seems to be (loosely) based on the events of super mystery dungeon where the main enemy is Dark Matter, a physical manifestation of negative feelings contributed to by those negative feelings of the Pokemon. It wasn't a Spiritomb 9big missed opportunity there Nintendo), but you can think of it as a Spiritomb on crack.

In this comic, since that's the energy used by Dark type Pokemon a lot of folks ended up putting two and two together and invented racism. Blaming Dark types for the event or just worrying that that kind of energy still existing could make it happen again.

And seeing as Dark Matter was about 5 seconds away from completing its plan of yeeting the planet into the sun that's a pretty reasonable fear to have even if it's not correct. It also explains why Dark types get treated worse when others of every type also do bad things. Those others aren't associated with the apocalypse.

In truth though it's a massive amount of unfiltered Dark type energy accumulated in one "individual" over the course of hundreds or thousands of years that was the problem. A Pokemon may possess that type of energy, but it's gonna be watered down by them being a person.

Considering humans are racist for the hell of it, it's not too surprising Pokemon would get racist in the wake of a near apocalypse.

It seems like pre-evolution pokemon that are not Dark type do not face any hate.
I mean, both Lucky and Pix were both Eevees, and nothing has shown that either faced any hate as Eevees.

An animation on the artist's twitter (I refuse to say 'x'), showed Lucky living pretty normally as an Eevee, then evolving after some trauma, and stepping into his home scared about how his father would react.
His dad was fine, though. SO not every pokemon has a hate-on for Dark types.

  • When I chose Umbreon as my favorite eeveelution, it was because I imagined them being discriminated against for being a dark type (which this comic is now clearly exploring). I felt for them because I understood what it means and feels like to be misunderstood by others.

Dark matter was the negative energy of all Pokémon not just Dark Types. I mentioned this before on a different page but the history of PSMD doesn't seem have anything to do with how Dark Types are treated so what happened between then and now?
