Really did wish something good would have happened between them but that was a very long shot after what happened to him.

  • Good for Al. I really hope that his relationship with Richard and Jill can recover from this.

  • I wanted the happy milf ending with the sexy and fun milf.

That was before the massive and troubling baggage. Now the happy milf ending isn't possible, I don't think.

Farewell, sexy and fun milf. You were sexy and fun when you were sexy and fun, then you stopped being sexy and fun. :c

    Godspeed, Al.

  • I still feel that this is more or less his fault. He knew she was married - healthy or not - and he doubled down on it, biting off more than he could chew. Downvote me, make a counterpoint, do whatever you want, but I stand by this view without a change of heart.

I used to think infidelity wasn't that big of an issue cuz I never cared for drama until I found out and realized the kinds of shit it does to the one that was heartbroken, so honestly yeah I agree with you buddy ol pal.

  • I think the best course of action for Al here will be to take a break from relationship stuff, figure things out, give himself some time. Either that or talk about what happened with his partners.

  • Could've just told him the truth, Agatha that this was A one-time fling.
Instead of him finding out himself the hard way. (Still painful, but painfully honest)

Agreed, better to feel a painful truth than to live a painful lie

Contrary to popular belief, conflicts aren't necessarily a team sport where one party is completely innocent and the other is completely guilty. Al definitely had his own part to play, and while his being younger and more naive self does warrant some leniency (in the past), and his steps towards realizing his mistakes now should also not be ignored, he does have some personal responsibility to accept (which he seems to be doing). Meanwhile, Agatha as the older person who already had more responsibilities and experience in relationships, the one who didn't communicate and ended up cutting off communication, and clearly had not reflected in the time since in any way that resulted in a change... Maybe she'll also end up accepting and learning from it all, but she certainly carries the brunt of the mess she finds herself in.

He was also a teenager when this started, and she was an adult. Like, what she did wasn't technically statutory, but it also only *technically* wasn't statutory, which should probably be an important part of the calculus here. He was dumb in his expectations and handling of things, but that's more expected and understandable from a young guy fresh into dating than flinging with a student ought be for a full grown ass adult.

  • I'm glad Al became the bigger person here and said his piece instead of insisting on wanting her. Better late than never.

He did, but let's be honest here, we've all made dumb mistakes in our youth. I don't think there isn't anybody that wasn't kind of an asshole in their twenties.

I think it's fair to feel that some of the responsibility lies with Al. He could potentially have acted on the ambiguity of whether she wanted to be together or not, breaking it off and thus avoiding a lot of hurt.

That being said, it is easy to say all this while not having gone through or feeling any of what Al is/was feeling. And it also ignores the power-dynamic of the two. Agatha was his teacher, directly had power over him, and much older than him too. Al had just turned 18, and I don't think a magic switch is flipped that turns you mature when you turn 18. He had no experience with falling in love, no parents around to model a healthy, loving relationship, and socially he was a bit of an outcast too. He was the pinnacle of vulnerable, and instead of providing a good example and helping him grow, Agatha fed into a stunted, regressive narrative of what love is. She deliberately used Al as an escape from her own troubled marriage, with little concern for what kind of damage it would cause. And she couldn't even look him in the eye when he almost died and was hospitalized as an indirect consequence of her actions. It wasn't her fault that he fell, he chose to drink himself up on the edge, but he wouldn't have been there if she didn't tell him to meet her there, he wouldn't have waited there for her if she broke it off earlier, so she is implied in what followed. And she knows this, she felt guilty and couldn't see him because of that. Yet, two years later, she comes back and tries yet again to escape her marriage with a student fling. She learned nothing.

Could Al have said no? Yeah. Could he have taken a stand earlier? Possibly. But I think with the context of their power-dynamic and his lack of experience, his need for love and connection, and her dangling the opportunity of what he wanted most, I think you're be expecting a lot from him.

Welp, are ya'll happy now? You guys all got what you wanted. Al dropped Agatha, and now everybody's fucking miserable. Good job, folks lol

...They were all going to be miserable either way, difference is Agatha wouldn't be. Al would be constantly questioning whether what Agatha feels towards him is genuine or vice versa and Jill and Richard would feel icky towards Al for breaking a marriage, not to mention that argument they had with Al few pages ago.

So yeah, quiete an L take.

  • Guys look closer. The purple scenes are after he fell off the bridge. His tail is shorter. She didn't see him in the hospital. That means she was still trying to pick up where they left off. He also said "should have said 2 years ago". That sounds like a clue too.

I normally wouldn't make a comment like this, but unless I'm reading this wrong, why does it sound like you're taking it out on the commenters about Al dropping Agatha? Many of us saw this coming from the start of this chapter and Al holding the bottle alone on the bridge. We knew she was about to break him from that picture alone. We weren't sure how it would all play out. We still aren't completely sure how the author will take these characters; however, we -the readers- are definitely invested and even care about the well being of these characters. I certainly am.
