It’s true Blu, you need a better Wife

Most popular art of 2024?:
This F* meme of Goji bullying Blu

Blacklisted

    To explain:
In the Latin American fandom, Rio 2 was recently reviewed by a popular youtuber who talked about how great Rio one was, but pointed out how Rio 2 was a massive downgrade, and it all hinged on the fact that Jewel is merciless to Blu.

In the first movie, there is a massive theme of Blu not understanding anything about Bird Body language because he grew up with a human and only knows about talking and other human things. Jewel hates him initially because she literally can't understand him.

However, in the I wanna Party song number, Blu re the VERY brief time he spent in the wild as a fledgling. This causes him to start dancing to the music with moves he doesn't understand, but Jewel instantly widens her eyes and gets a massive smile on her face and starts dancing with him. Raphiel (the toucan) tells him that Jewel likes him, but Blu insists that she doesn't and says "haven't you been listening">and his not so subtle hints that he would replace Blu's wife if anything happened to her.

THIS is where things go south.

Blu has another fish out of water situation as he can't get along with the birds, he doesn't have enough instincts to mesh with the flock, and even when he works his butt off to try and prove to Jewel that he will her and the kids, but Jewel lacks any of her previous understanding and actually often berates him for not magically 'meshing" with the flock, as if she has forgotten that MOST of his life was spent with humans and he literally only started learning about bird stuff as an adult.

THAT is where all of this focus is. This is why Jewel is seen as a slut (she'll leave the kids with Blu and go off on adventures and stuff and not care about his feelings), and is why the Latin American fanbase is going "Screw it, new wife for Blu."

EDIT: Cleaned up the explanation and linked the actual scene detailing how Jewel went from hating Blu to understanding him along with details to keep an eye on.

Geez, she was that awful. I recall she never told her father to be respectful to Blu either.

It gets worse. There is a deleted scene where Blu snaps back at her, which happens just before he abandons her and the kids and goes to find the humans and Blu says the most crushing line.

Blu to Jewel: "I thought I was your one and only... But I was just the only one."

Yes, Blu outright called her ass out on it, how once she returned to her flock she just expected him to mesh into it and how he "wasn't special to her" once she found said flock as she had "better" options.

This is also why Blu has such a vicious temper in the last act of the movie as when Roberto tries to capture him, thinking he's leading the humans to their flock, Blu not only saves Roberto's life from the deforesters and poachers, but then promptly slaps the shit out of him and grabs him like a little bitch and commands him to get reinforcements.

This is why there is a bunch of art of jewel cucking Blu, because in a manner of speaking, it's how she treats him for about 90% of the movie until he literally rallies BOTH macaw clans together to fight off the poachers and deforesters.

But as I also said, no one has been posting the art where Blu gets a much more wonderful wife, often being Coco, the Scarlet macaw AKA a member of the rival clan.

Specifically to get banged BY Blu. He makes his presence all a huge showcase though Jewel isn't "impressed", just happy to see more of her flock. Sure he dances with jewel and Blu finds him to be more "smoothly plumed" than himself, but Roberto, however, ends up constantly within Blu's personal space, is almost jealous of how Blu has children and when he learns that Blu is leaving the flock to humans, Roberto tackles him but is otherwise emotionally shattered that Blu is doing such a thing.

That's not to say Roberto is/was gay, but considering how well the animators were following avian details, Roberto gives all t he signs that he's interested in Blu's family and is "submissive" to Blu, and in bird situations like this, males who do this want to be close to a family and will play the role of a second female to an established male with offspring.

Not to mention how alone Blu was during the entire movie, struggling to adjust and fit in but no one gave the chance and looking back on it Jewel seemed to have forgotten about Julius and Linda not even caring.

Also since they are more blue spix macaws Jewel had no real reason to stay with Blu but kid's movie so she does while being completely impatient and the part where Robero is introduced she seems a bit too happy to see him Flirty even and it es me off the strong female paired with timid submissive make this dynamic can work but here it should fallen apart.

You know i don't know if i'm the one only one on this but i think i can kinda understand jewel and why she's written that way so hear me out, We know the flock in which she was raised is extremely isolationist and downright hostile towards any outsider so it makes sense why she's seems apathetic and untrusting to most characters who are not her family or non-domesticated birds.

I believe that the reason why she doesn't respect blu and ignores how he feels even after forming a family together is because while she clearly learned to love and trust him she never fully accepted his lifestyle and way of thinking which steems from both having radically opposite upbringings, I mean the thing that Kickstarted the second movie is Jewel's frustration and clear dislike towards the civilized lifestyle blu and their kids were enjoying.

In way i guess she's kinda like dracula in hotel transylvania 2 in that while he may have accepted and welcomed johnny into his family he didn't want to accept another lifestyle for his grandson other than forcing him into being a traditional vampire without even considering the feelings of the rest of his family and ignoring their wishes, the difference is that he gets called out on that by mavis and learns his lesson by the end of the movie while perla doesn't (If only that deleted scene made it into the final cut 😔).

The issue was never that Jewel wanted them to live in the wild lifestyle. Blu understood that and gave up his lifestyle to try and live her lifestyle. He was willing to just give up everything in order to make HER happy, yet he found he couldn't mesh with her flock. He tried hard to do so and failed at every attempt.

When he brought this up to Jewel about how he wasn't fitting in, she just berated him. She didn't have anything comforting to say, no praise for what he HAD accomplished, nothing, she just chewed him out about how he was greedy and selfish, which he was anything but.

Again, the deleted scene was NEEDED since it set the path for ALL the other events in the movie.
