But for real, I'll try that next time. The fur detail looks great even on my horizontal monitor, so I was worried about losing detail if I rendered it at half resolution. It's worth some experimentation in the future though.

I ended up spending quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to make a decent fur material without having to use actual fur particles (because fuck spending 24 hours rendering one 12 second animation), so I'm glad it turned out well. I'm absolutely a 3d animating novice too so thanks for the positive !
