Like almost all of Super Earth's 'great ideas', that'll just end up backfiring. Possibly quite literally, actually.
The bugs are a threat because we've been farming then for the material they decompose into (which is basically space-oil), and they escaped containment on their farms. Also, the 'TCS' we've been working on deploying? probably going to mutate the bugs and bring back some of the heavier units from the original game into HD2, including what is basically a mix between a bile titan and a sandworm from Dune. Bad shit, that.
The Cyborg were basically space-socialists that were... arguably peaceful? I don't off the top of my head, but long story short they got forcefully subjugated and forced to work the mines on their home planet of cyberstan (which is currently under Super-Earth control as of 03.18.24), which was fine up until their creations called the automatons showed up and started kicking ass (see maleveleon creek)- there are various recordings floating around of supposedly translated transmissions of them basically saying they'll leave us alone instead of annihilating us once they liberate their creators because they're not complete assholes like us, but that's of dubious authenticity, so take with a grain of salt.
An faction we're seeing wind of via in-game events like blue lasers showing up in missions is called the Illuminates, who we actually allied with for a time. And then started a war with because... they were working on nukes? question mark? we wanted their FTL tech? Frankly both games are so chockful of propaganda getting a clue of the actual events is a pain in the ass. Kinda fun playing as the 'baddies' though, ngl. Just follow orders and kick ass.
