Description

Another critically endangered bird with 150-700 individuals left in the wild. It's only found in one place in the world, Chapada do Araripe, where, in a peculiar geological phenomena, rainwater collects on top of the plateau, gets absorbed into the soil and then springs from the sides of it, creating a lush forest oasis in the middle of a dry shrubland. Limited habitat makes these birds extremely vulnerable to any human development in the area. And the oasis nature of the area makes it extremely prone to human development.

So far it's more about the plateau than birds themselves, but it is a really interesting place. Here's a fact about the birds: apparently, females have a more varied diet because they aren't... you know... white and bright red.
