...Or maybe not. Let’s talk about that spy theory.
Lyle was originally eaten by the airheaded Lily because Nino told her there was “a spy in the palace.” Did Nino completely invent that just to amuse herself and make Lily obsess over Lyle... or was she repeating something she had actually heard?
Later, once Lyle was back and settling into the new rat house, he thought to himself that his family might “send someone” after they stopped receiving his letters. That raises questions. Was “someone” just a worried relative knocking at the palace gates... or does polite, educated, well-spoken Lyle come from a wealthy rat family with enough influence to hire help?
Enter the famous assassin rat from the previous chapter. Maybe she came to investigate what happened to him. Maybe she came for revenge after hearing rumors that a former rat had devoured another rat. Either way, she got distracted... and Lily ate her too. Maybe Lyle never even learned someone had been sent after him.
Now in chapter 14, the royal mage simply says they “caught the spy” and hands over the former cat official after turning him into a rat. No proof shown, no confession, nothing. Just accusation and sentence.
When Lyle asks what drove him to betray the throne, the accused never actually answers. Instead, he blames Nino for hiring filthy rats in the first place, and for even turning them into cats. He keeps ranting about how much he despises rats.
Then he casually reveals something interesting: another “vermin” had been hired through unofficial channels, without ever ing through his hands, because "the vermin must have connections". And in a burst of anger, Lyle tells him that he was that “other vermin.”
So now we have a fun little dilemma.
Next page, does Lyle eat the rat simply out of anger and resentment after all the insults?
Or does he silence the one person who just realized he was hired through a secret route... that he may have been the real spy all along... and who would gladly tell Princess Nino the moment he was delivered to her?
And, finally, who would be helping him? Who hired him? Could it be the same person who set up the former cat in charge of recruitment with those accusations?🙂

And that is exactly why the story is so damn good.
I'm on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. When an author can make a character/plot that evokes such emotional responses, it's the sign of a well crafted story. I love this story and I hope it continues and that it continues to have this maniacal psychopathic drama in it. I love it. I love hating lilly, I love hating the princess, and I love rooting for Lyle and the underdog mice. It's a fantastic story and turning Lyle into a cat and have him actively participate in very fashion of murder that he was subjected to by his closest and most trusted friend is an amazing twist. I love it <3
