Lucky Star—Page 81

Blacklisted

Yeah, you might've bitten off more than you can chew there, bub.

(What was that thought you had eallier? "I knew I had to exercise before coming here!" That's like, the least you could've done to prepare.)

I'm kind of wondering what other options this guy had. You'd think he'd be well into "I should've gone into ______ instead" territory by now...

A lot of this is also Pix's doing, pushing him unnecessarily. There's no real encouragement there, just mentally tearing him dowm.

There are no bad students. Only bad teachers.

You need to that Lucky only failed because Pix sabotaged him.
Pix nudged the balance beam so Lucky would miss his jump. Before that, Lucky was doing fine.
Pix increased the ball launcher so Lucky could not dodge them all. Before that, Lucky was dodging them.

So far, the only thing Lucky has shown to be bad at without Pix sabotaging it is straight-up attacking.
So it's a bit much to say that Lucky is in over his head when he could very well have succeeded at 2/3rds of the things he did so far.

Not only tearing him down, but actively sabotaging him, THEN tearing him down for failing when he could not have, in any way, succeeded.

Lucky you are winning in spite of Pix's training.

Pix is definitely pushing him down, but we're not exactly seeing a lot of drive from Lucky to make it in the first place. The not-exercising thing is pretty telling: he knew that he should have prepared himself for the training, but he wasn't motivated enough to actually do so. As far as we've been told, the only reason he's going through this program at all is because he moved to this town, and he's looking for something to do. He could very well be in the Expedition Society because he didn't encounter any "Help Wanted" signs on the way there.

He'd probably do better in the training if Pix were helping rather than hindering, sure. But I can't imagine he would do just as well as any other recruit, because the other recruits presumably have better reasons to be there.

Maybe, but he was doing the balance beam perfectly fine, even leaping through the rings, before Pix nudged the beam to make him miss.
And he was dodging the balls until Pix sped up the machine.

Like, he was not struggling at all on either exercise, at all, until Pix sabotaged him.
So Lucky clearly has talent and the ability to become a Rescue Society member, from what has been shown. The only thing he failed at without Pix being the cause was knowing how to use Magic.

And I don't know what you mean by us not seeing drive. If Lucky had no drive, he'd quit. He clearly wants to be there and he wants to succeed.
Hell, he even said he'll try harder, not for anyone else, but for himself. That's drive right there.

The only thing he lacks is being prepared for this beforehand, which makes me think it was more of a spur-of-the-moment decision.
Like, maybe he saw a flyer and thought 'I've tried everything else and failed, so why not try this? Worse case: I just fail again.'
That was not lack of motivation, just not planning far enough ahead to have the time to train. Not bad motivation, just bad timing.
