Tsavik and Nell have become more or less friends over time.

Physical pain hurts less than emotional pain.

What is seen here has been depicted in thousands of movies, comics, TV shows, etc; it's like a cliché, and funny-cute thing, even an easy way to give a hero an extra layer of vulnerability.
But really, normally, if you're used to facing dangers and fears, you become calloused and/or you put things into perspective, and builds self-confidence. It's true that one person can be experienced in a field while another is completely inexperienced, and the fear of losing a relationship or not being loved in return is a very real fear... but I think these things are typical of civilization, of idealizing or romanticizing these things, these relationships, too much, develop a somewhat corny sentimentality, instead of naturalizing them. That's why I believe that someone from a more savage/wild tribe wouldn't see love or these relationships the same way as city dwellers. Kobolds, especially according to lore, are culturally inclined to be more selfish and pragmatic; these sentimentalities in kobolds, in my opinion, would fit with kobolds raised in cities among humans disconnected from their culture.
