Blacklisted

Kubrick managed to secure a lot of cooperation from his actors by outright lying to them.

George C. Scott tried to play it off as a serious movie as opposed to a farce, but Kubrick suggested doing comedic takes first to loosen up. Naturally, Kubrick only used the "warmup" takes. Scott responded by refusing to ever work with Kubrick again (though he did concede that Kubrick's chicanery did benefit Dr. Strangelove).

Slim Pickens wasn't told much of anything about the plot (being only shown his scenes and never being told it was a comedy), so he played his character straight, which in turn amplified the comedy.

What a story! ...no, it's actually really interesting. I should finally watch that movie.
