  • Why would you need magic to hunt a gazelle? And if you actually have to use a spell, why ensnare? A fireball would do the job and cook it at the same time.

  • Oh here dave I spent a couple weaks shining and polishing rare blue stones and weaving a fine silk thread, and i found and picked for you the most beautiful, flawless blue feathers you can find any side of the plains within a weeks march. I hope you like it.

Whats that? You killed a gazelle and its soaked in blood and guts and ruined?.. no biggie.. i'll just.. spend another month making you new beads and picking you new feathers...

She's a druid, it's kind of their thing to use the tools of nature at hand. Also, a fireball in the savanna is not a wise move unless you're a fan of uncontrollable bonfires in the desert.

So basically what you're say is

is that all druids are lame. I'd agree.

Actually, I'm saying that this particular druid knows how to back up the rest of the party and make sure the encounter goes as planned.
Not to mention, she knows how to look good doing it.

When hunting, tribes would use all of the animal, especially horns, hooves, and tails, and hides. Would want to damage it spamming fireballs at it.

Yeah, I guess that moron's never played Far Cry 2 and never had the unfortunate occurrence of setting a wildfire right behind your ass after using the bazooka.

Also, this! And, finally, there's the fact that your "cook it at the same time" show's you've never cooked before. Even if you removed the skin, bones, guts, and other bits, then just fireballed the meat, the outside would be charcoal while the inside would be still raw.

  • And if you DIDN'T remove all the other bits, you'd burn off the fur and possibly some of the skin, but leave the meat completely untouched.

Didn't know we had an expert on magical fireballs here.

If you actually bother paying attention to what the characters say about magical fire in pretty much any fantasy game/movie/book/whatever where they actually bother to talk about it, once the spell is released from the caster's control, the fire works exactly the same as non-magical fire. That means it needs fuel and air to burn, it produces light, it spreads to other flammable objects, and so on. Which would also mean that if you used it to burn an animal bad enough to kill it, it would, as I said, thoroughly scorch the outside while doing relatively little to the meat.

tl;dr: Why, yes, yes we do! And now you know!
