For varuna-the-magnificent ~

Continuation from this

It turns out that Razor's lust defeat was the last one he needed to get a bad ending but, due to his ridiculously high stats, this ending made him king of the local kobold tribe!

He's still very salty about it.

Yeah, I always thought those kinds of porn games are weird. The sex scenes (at least the submissive ones) are often the result of losing, so there's this weird incentive to throw every fight you get into.

That's why I enjoy porn games that are difficult, at least. You don't feel like you have to lose, because the game is good enough to make you lose!

I know a LOT about game design and I could easily go on an hour long rant about how dumb and counter productive 90% of porn games are from a gameplay standpoint. But the short version is, too many porn games reward you for losing. This is backwards design. Getting laid in combat centric game should always be a reward, never a punishment.

For example Kinkaid had a terrible healing mechanic and at the time I recommended the dev to make the enemies themselves health kits. Stun them, press a button, gain some health back while using a tissue IRL. It would encourage players to actually have sex in a porn game, while adding much needed gameplay depth. In the current version if you want to beat the game you have to avoid getting hit at all costs, even though the main character explictilly wants to get railed by werewolf and can never be killed. This was massive missed opportunity to sync the motivations of the character and the player. Rename HP to morale and have it be restored by bedding enemies.
Instead we get the image pictured above. ludonarrative dissonance at it's finest. At least it's not rape for once.

The only game I can recall that managed integrate sex into it's gameplay with any competence at all is Carpetwurm's Thirstcasm. Where dominant acts give you XP, while submissive acts give you HP. Shame then that (by the makers ission) it wasn't a very a good game, despite being better than most of it's competition.

Regarding difficulty. It's my belief that Porn games should generally never be hard unless you're at the end or the creator is trying to sync world building via gameplay.
The reason is: It's a Porn game. The vast majority of players are only playing because they're horny and will quit the game once finished. The rest are either crazy, completionists, challenge junkies, or have a fetish. So basically only crazy people.

    TL;DR
In porn games you must chose between either the porn or game. Trying to do both will result in a game over. Any competent game designer looking to make a combat centric porn game must make sure that sex in some way benefits the player and isn't only some annoying mini-game, and or game over scenario. Otherwise why not remove the porn bits entirely and just make a normal game that's actually fun to play? Or better yet, just give us only the porn? It's what most of came for anyway.

The point of the game over scenes isn't to make a more conventional game that follows appropriate rules of game design and properly rewards the player. Those scenes are meant to appeal to specific submissive fantasies. Sure you could just create a picture or animation or story that has the same fetishes but it wouldn't get the viewer as engaged. Playing the game and losing on purpose makes the game over scene feel more personal and makes the scene more engaging than it would be in another, less engaging form. Sure it may not be the best game design to reward failure but this isn't exactly a conventional game for a conventional market. The point of these games is to make the experience more personal, even if it won't be getting a game of the year award.

While I am aware of the fact that game over scenes themselves are a form of kink and they deserve to exist, I'm going to have to completely disagree with you on everything else.

A game should always be fun to play regardless of anything else and if not it has to engage the player with something else or failing that have some other meaningful reason to exist. Horror games come to mind. Standard porn game mechanics are flat out terrible in of a gameplay perspective and are not fun to actually play. This is my main problem, not being fun and ludonarrative dissonance.

More over, every porn platformer and text game are all fundamentally the exact same, with the same main overarching kink and the same protagonist who always gets violated without consent. Repetition is what makes both games and kinks boring, we've been doing the same thing for decades and it's high time we got a porn game that's an actual game instead of mediocre porn and rape kinks.

Si. Accurately discussing and explaining game mechanics gets complicated real quick. I've heard programming be compared to rocket science and with games employing multiple talents from 2D art to level design it's easy to see why actually making games is extremely hard.

While I'm still here like to mention a game that popped up recently called Arma's Quest that did exactly what I was talking about here. Still early in development and the boss difficulty is wacky, but it's exactly the kind of stuff I wanted from gameplay perspective. Main character's got great tits too.

Personally I have the Game Over kink, but that doesn't kill a game for me. I lose the fight, have fun, then try to play the game so I can progress to the *next* fight to lose. If the game's good enough, I'll typically beat it anyway to see the ending. I get people want the sex to be a reward, it's what they are there for and looking for, but I much, much prefer games where I get 'punished' for losing and don't typically enjoy the alternatives. But I see why people like them. It's like the Dom and Sub community. There's certain Dom games and certain Sub games, I guess.
