MemberAwesome wtf material. I had a Garfield "phase" as a kid, read everything I could find. The earlier stuff is actually pretty decent, then he hit a wall and it was all generic bs. But this is one of the great things about the strip: 90% meh, but every so often it would take a hard right to crazy town and you'd wonder what drugs Davis had been doing. There was another one where he almost died in an abandoned house in the middle of winter, and a separate book about (I shit you not) Garfield being convinced he was living through Armageddon when a nasty storm went through.
I think it was the winter one that inspired the famous "Garfield is dead" conspiracy theory (which was obviously false and which Davis has denied). Was an amusing idea though. But yeah: strange stuff going on in the guys head.
