Species: thylacine

The Thylacine, also known as the Tasmanian Tiger or Tasmanian Wolf, was the largest known carnivorous marsupial. Its two common names came from its striped lower back and its canid-like characteristics.

The last known living specimen of the species died in captivity on September 7, 1938 due to neglect. Numerous unconfirmed sightings have been reported after its extinction date, however, leaving many to believe that the Thylacine may still exist.

Not to be confused with Tasmanian devil.
