A Phone, short for telephone is a telecommunications device that transmits sound through electronic signals over a distance. This is most often used to conduct conversations between individuals. For a character actively talking on a phone, use phone call.

Types of Phones

• flip phone: a clamshell style folding cellphone, popular from the 1990s to late 2000s

• landline phone: a phone connected via wires to a telephone line, usually sits on a desk or is mounted to a wall
• payphone: A public pay-per-use telephone, usually wall mounted or housed inside a telephone booth
• rotary phone: a telephone with a rotary dial instead of buttons or a touch screen interface
