PC was and still is the most powerful option, but it's not a game system, and getting a good gaming PC can be very expensive.
In spite of being technically inferior to the 360, PS3 and PS Vita, the Wii and DS both sold like hotcakes laced with crack, letting Nintendo dominate that console generation.

  • I would go with PC - a console does everything a PC can nowadays, but without the possibility to upgrade the hardware. Need better graphics? Just get a new video card into the system, need more U power? Just install it. Consoles will always be limited to the technology available at the release time before a new one gets released

Instead of buying a console every new generation it's probably cheaper to upgrade PC hardware over time. (A Geforce GTX1060 is available for 80 bucks when bought used as example)

  • You can emulate the Wii and Nintendo DS on PC.
You also get access to a wider library of games since not every game has to be approved by a committee. With Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo you can only play the games that they allow on their platform. PC gives you access to infinite platforms with varying standards.
Also, being able to mod your games, and better performance overall.
