Topic: Underrated animal species in anthro art

Posted under General

What are some species you would like to see more in furry/anthro art? For me personally:

-Meerkat
-Dolphin
-Koi Fish
-Spider
-Squirrel
-Slug
-Insects in general
-Armadillo
-Pig

Probably deer, goats, and other herbivores that aren't just reskinned canines. I'm not good at drawing, but at least I actually try to give them different face/head shapes.

Edit: Also dholes. They're kind of pretty. Though I feel like people will probably just think they're foxes anyway. Mustelids could also use some love too, and the fur patterns on European badgers are kind of cool.

Primates, especially simians. They probably don't get as much attention as other species due to already looking vaguely human-like in their feral forms and so prone to look like furred humans when anthropomorphized if not designed carefully.

Oh, that's the worst! I'd argue that sometimes this even happens to bunnies as well.

As for my picks, I'd say antelopes (oryxes and bongos in particular), small primates like tamarins, aye ayes, galagos, and non ringtailed lemurs, and hyraxes, prairie dogs, and hedgehogs.
For fantastical or mythical ones, I choose wolpertingers, skvaders, kelpies, and perytons.

Cats are also victims of the "canine face"

African wild dogs specifically because of their pattern and ear shape (and they aren't even dogs).
Bats, just because cute.
Guinea pigs? Idk why, just... there's not much art of them at all, and they're pretty goofy lil' buggers. I love the long-haired ones, adorable.
.....
Bigfin squid. Look it up with the lights on.

Other kinds of hyenas that aren't just the typical spotted hyena. Like, I love those guys don't get me wrong, but what about striped teens, brown yeenas, or even the humble aardwolf?

It's frankly criminal how underrepresented sloths are in furry art relative to how popular they are as animals
